Earth Day Presentation of 'Missa Gaia' to Be Performed in Silver Spring

The performance will be held on April 23 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD-Two choirs and an orchestra will perform the Missa Gaia (Mass for the Earth) on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, according to a news release.

Composed by Paul Winter, Paul Halley, and Jim Scott, the performance for Earth Day integrates world music with songs from the wild, including the recorded sounds of whales and wolves, to celebrate the whole earth as a sacred space.

Widely recognized composer, singer, guitarist, and environmentalist, Jim Scott, is the featured soloist with orchestra and choirs from UUCSS and the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church. Scott performed with the Paul Winter Consort in the original 1982 monumental recording of Missa Gaia.

The church is located at 10309 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring.

Tickets are $25 for the general public, $20 for UUCSS and MVUC members (advance purchase) and $15 for senior/student.
