Firefighters Rescue 100-Year-Old Woman After Tree Hits Home
High winds on Thursday morning damage homes, cause power outages throughout Montgomery County.

Update — Montgomery County's Office of Emergency Management has issued a High Winds warning through Friday to Saturday morning, with wind gusts up to 60 mph. The winds have knocked down trees, branches and power lines throughout the county, closing roads including Colesville Road (Route 29) and Germantown Road (Route 118).

BETHESDA, MD — High winds on Thursday morning knocked down trees and power lines throughout Montgomery County, according to authorities. At around 2 a.m., firefighters rescued a 100-year-old woman after a large tree fell on her Kensington home, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the county Fire and Rescue Service.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment after firefighters freed her, Piringer said. Another person also was displaced from the single-family home.
Other reports of homes damaged by falling trees came in from Burtonsville, Germantown and Gaithersburg, as well as reports of power outages and traffic lights out.

In case of a power outage, Montgomery County residents were urged to call BG&E at 1-877-778-2222, First Energy @PotomacEdison at 1-888-544-4877 or PEPCO at 1-877-737-2662.
