BETHESDA, MD — Bundle up, Montgomery County: for the first time this season, temperatures are expected to dip as low as 30 degrees.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the region from 2 to 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Affected areas include: Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Howard County, Harford County, D.C., and parts of northern Virginia.

Forecasters say these conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

  • Take Friday to protect tender plants from the cold
  • To prevent freezing and possible pipe bursts, outdoor pipes should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly
  • Drain in-ground sprinklers

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. North wind 3 to 6 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 51. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
