Harris Visits NIH, Gets Second Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

BETHESDA, MD — Vice President Kamala Harris received her second dose of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday at Bethesda's National Institutes of Health.

The nurse practitioner who administered the shot told Harris she might develop a stronger reaction to the vaccine the second time around.

"It's because your body is building immunity," the nurse said.

Harris replied: "That's what we want."

The vice president is now fully vaccinated, along with President Joe Biden, who received his final shot earlier this month.

Harris on Tuesday encouraged Americans to get vaccinated, saying it is "something that will save your life and the life of your family."

To date, about 6 percent of people in the United States have received at least one COVID-19 shot, according to a USA TODAY analysis. About 1 percent of people have received both doses of the vaccine.

In Maryland, more than 396,000 doses have been administered to eligible groups. The state is currently in Phase 1C of its vaccination plan. That includes all vulnerable residents 65 and older. More information can be found here.
