Howard M. Shlefstein, 93, of Chevy Chase, Lt. Colonel, US Air Force, retired, died August 20, 2015 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He was born in New York City to the late Benjamin and Fanny (nee Widhoff) Shlefstein.

Lt. Col. Shlefstein was a veteran of three wars: WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He served as a navigator in the 99th Bombardment Group under Col. Fay R. Upthegrove in WWII and US Strike Command out of MacDill Air Force Base.

Shlefstein was a nationally ranked tennis player, playing exhibition games with Gardnar Mulloy. He also golfed with Sam Sneed.

He is survived by his wife, Michiko and will be missed by his many loving relatives and friends.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, arrangements are pending.
