Hypothermia Alert For March 25 - 26 In Montgomery County

BETHESDA, MD — Temperatures are expected to plummet Monday evening, prompting officials to issue a Hypothermia Alert for Montgomery County. The alert is in effect from 9 p.m. on Monday, March 25 until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26.

The county issues a Hypothermia Alert when temperatures drop below 32 degrees, making it more likely for people to get hypothermia and frostbite. Officials said they are particularly concerned for children, seniors, homeless individuals, and animals.

To keep the public safe, Montgomery County has published a list of tips on its website. Take a look at the list below:

• Neighbors, friends or family members should check on the elderly, especially a senior living alone. Older people are particularly susceptible to hypothermia, even inside their homes and may need assistance.
• Children engaged in outdoor activities should be carefully monitored by a responsible adult
• Everyone spending time outside should dress appropriately to protect against the cold
• Montgomery County provides a variety of sheltering opportunities for the homeless. Call the police non-emergency line, 301-279-8000 if an individual appears to be in danger.
