Mary Lee Scott, 89, of Bethesda

Mary Lee Scott, 89, passed away on May 24, 2015 at her home at Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda.

Scott was born on July 9, 1925 in Midland, PA, where she also grew up. She was a proud member of the Class of 1948 at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster, MD. This was where Mary Lee Beglin met and shortly thereafter married Clarence Frasier Scott. They had been married for almost 63 years when Frasier died early in 2012.

Lee and Frasier moved to Bethesda in 1952. Until their move to Maplewood , they raised their daughters in Parkwood and were active members of the Bethesda United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club of Silver Spring and the Alumni Association of Western Maryland College. Lee was a kindergarten and first-grade teacher in the Montgomery County School System for 22 years. It was during this time that she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland.

Scott is survived by her two daughters, Martha Scott Schafer of Alexandria and Sue Scott Beddow (David) of Potomac. She also leaves her three beloved grandchildren, Harrison Scott Schafer (Jennifer), Margaret Lee Beddow and James Scott Beddow.

Lee Scott’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday morning, June 20, at 11 a.m. The service will be held at the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8300 Old Georgetown Road, followed by a reception she would have liked at Maplewood Park Place.
