Montgomery County Adds 99 New COVID-19 Cases, Zero New Deaths

Montgomery County added 99 new coronavirus cases overnight, according to public health data. The local death toll remains at 1,422.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County registered 99 new coronavirus infections overnight, data released by the Maryland Department of Health showed.

For Maryland's most populous jurisdiction, Monday's addition pushes the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 66,491.

No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The local death toll remains at 1,422.

The latest fatality count does not include the 46 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 77,701, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 409,075 cases, 8,075 confirmed deaths, and 185 "probable deaths." Of the 1,039 people currently being hospitalized statewide, 248 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As of Monday, Maryland has administered 2,564,507 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those, 1,652,999 were first doses and 841,925 were second doses.

In Montgomery County, 319,703 residents (30.4 percent) have received their first dose. A total of 167,713 residents (16 percent) have already gotten their second and final shot.
