Montgomery County Reports 70 New Coronavirus Cases, 0 Deaths

County health officials reported that 52.7 percent of local residents are partially vaccinated and 36.7 percent have gotten both shots.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County reported 70 new COVID-19 on Friday, health officials reported on a day when no one in the county died from the coronavirus or from complications of the virus.

The latest additions push the total number of confirmed cases and deaths in the county to 69,805 and 1,476, respectively.

Health officials believe that 46 others had the virus but died before ever getting tested. For now, they are considered "probable deaths." They won't be added to the official fatality count until confirmatory lab tests are performed.

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 82,965, according to the latest figures.
Across Maryland, there have been 447,401 cases, 8,555 confirmed deaths, and 189 "probable deaths." Of the 1,042 people currently being hospitalized statewide, 269 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The positivity rate measures the percentage of COVID-19 tests that come back positive in a one-week span. According to data released Friday, Maryland's test positivity rate is 3.72 percent. In Montgomery County, it's 2.009 percent — which is lower than 22 of Maryland's 24 counties, state health officials said.

To date, Maryland has administered 4,618,350 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those, 2,634,389 were first doses and 1,798,247 were second doses.

In Montgomery County, 553,458 residents (52.7 percent) have received their first dose. A total of 383,332 residents (36.5 percent) have already gotten their second and final shot.
