No Parking Zones Created To Make Curbside Food Pickup Easier: DOT

These 'No Parking' zones outside restaurants are designed to make curbside food pickup easier for residents and delivery drivers.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County transportation officials say they are putting up "No Parking" signs outside a number of neighborhood restaurants to make curbside pickup easier for residents and delivery drivers.

So far, there are 24 temporary "Curbside Food Pickup" zones outside restaurants in the downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring areas and in North Bethesda's Pike & Rose neighborhood.

Customers can park in any of those spots for 15 minutes.

"'No Parking' zones will improve residents' curbside access to businesses providing pick up and takeout food services while dine-in restaurant service is suspended under the Statewide order issued by Governor Hogan to help prevent spread of the virus," the county's Department of Transportation said.

The virus — now dubbed "COVID-19" — emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 and has since infected nearly 214,800 people and killed more than 8,700 around the world. In the United States, authorities have reported a total of 7,769 cases and 118 fatalities, as of Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-one of those confirmed cases are from Montgomery County, Maryland.
