BETHESDA, MD — The Outer Loop reopened to traffic late Thursday afternoon after a tractor-trailer carrying hot asphalt overturned on the Outer Loop in Bethesda early Thursday morning, requiring a hazmat team to respond and clean up the spillage.

The tractor-trailer crashed between Connecticut Avenue and Old Georgetown Road on the Outer Loop. The three left lanes between those exits were still closed Thursday morning and afternoon as crews worked to clean up.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer said in a tweet.
