Repair Work To Snarl Weekend Beltway Traffic

Crews plan to close up to three lanes on the outer loop at Connecticut Avenue for resurfacing.

BETHESDA, MD — Motorists on the Beltway will face extra congestion this weekend as crews resurface the outer loop's bridge over Connecticut Avenue. Up to three lanes will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Sunday, the State Highway Administration announced.

Drivers are encouraged to use Georgia Avenue to University Boulevard to Connecticut Avenue if planning to travel west toward the American Legion Bridge, or Colesville Road to East-West Highway to Connecticut Avenue. The InterCounty Connector also is an option.

Drivers also may want to consider using I-95 through Prince George’s County to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to reach Northern Virginia. With the multiple lane closures, the SHA hopes the project can be completed before late Sunday morning. The resurfacing is weather permitting.
