Reward Offered in Theft of 'Ghost Bike' in Bethesda

The bike served as a memorial for a cyclist who was killed in a collision with a car at the intersection.

Montgomery County police and Crime Solvers are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information about the recent theft of a treasured local memorial known as the "ghost bike" in Bethesda.

The Ghost Bike is an all-white bicycle draped in an American flag that was left at the side of the road in the 6100 block of Massachusetts Avenue, where Timothy Aloysius Holden was struck and killed in a collision with a car on Aug. 28, 2015. A wooden stake holds a laminated document that tells Holden's story.

The Ghost Bike was reportedly stolen sometime over the long Memorial Day weekend, between May 26 to 30. Police were informed of the theft on Friday, June 3.
