Rotary Assist Refugees

metroBethesda Club Sets Up House

The metroBethesda Rotary Club is helping to re-settle refugees. The Club is assigned an incoming couple or family by Lutheran Social Services. These families, often from Afghanistan, have been vetted and are sponsored by the State Department. It is the club's responsibility to collect the furniture and household items required to outfit a one- or two-bedroom apartment. A Wider Circle, an organization that distributes gently-used furniture to D.C. area families, works with the Club to provide the furniture; the Club gathers needed kitchen items and other household necessities such as towels, lamps, basic tools, paper goods and cleaning supplies. The third assigned family will be "moved in" next weekend according to Daniel Fischer, president-elect of the metroBethesda Rotary and co-chair of the Refugee Resettlement Committee. If you have household items (NOT furniture) you would like to donate to a future family, contact Fischer at daniel@solveitgroup.com.
