Shake Shack is known for its thick shakes, frozen custard and burgers. It started as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in New York City. It operated during the summer in 2002 and 2003 before opening as a permanent food kiosk in 2004, according to its website. That original location is still open, and has covered seating for the winter months.
"The original Shack (along with many of its siblings) was designed by the architecture firm SITE Environmental Design to be harmonious with the park and its surroundings," Shake Shack's website says. "People from all over the world join us to enjoy great food in an incredible outdoor setting."
