WeeWee the Piglet Spared from Snowstorm and Market
A Chevy Chase family rescued the freezing animal from a roadside during the blizzard; he's now calling an animal sanctuary home.
CHEVY CHASE, MD — A Chevy Chase family on their way home last weekend through the blizzard saved a life when they pulled a shivering body from the road.
Turns out, the pink form covered in snow was a piglet that likely fell or jumped from a hog transport truck on the way to auction.
“I just felt so bad for him because he was covered in snow and ice, and he was shivering and he seemed very, very cold,” Catherine Smith told WJLA. “So we brought him into the car. He sat in my brother’s lap wrapped up in my sweatshirt.”

Catherine said her brother, Perry, slept in a bathtub with the piglet for about four hours to warm the animal.
The kids ensured the piglet – which they named WeeWee – stayed warm and had plenty to eat while their parents looked for a permanent home for the critter. Bananas seemed to be a favorite of the oinker.

The family realized that WeeWee needed to be with other pigs, so he’s been placed at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville. But the Smiths can visit their new buddy whenever they want.
On its Facebook page an animal sanctuary representative wrote: “This sweet boy, who loves to run and play just like a puppy, and who was destined for slaughter, will now have a wonderful life at our sanctuary, where he can roll in the mud, graze on fresh grass, and sleep in a soft warm bed in a barn with lots of rescued pig friends.”
