SPOILER ALERT: Reigning three-time world all-around champion Simone Biles led her team to a gold medal Tuesday afternoon. The 19-year-old from Texas has many observers saying she's the best gymnast they've ever seen.
The U.S. women's score of 184.897 was more than eight points clear of silver medalist Russia, while China placed third for the bronze.
On Sunday, Biles competed in the Woman's Qualification at the Olympics, where she scored a 16.000 on the vault, a 15.000 on the uneven bars, a 15.633 on the balance beam and a 15.733 on the floor exercise. Translation: Those are phenomenal scores. Along with her team, she qualified individually in all categories — all-around, vault, balance beam and floor exercise finals.
Biles and teammates Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez were heavy favorites to win another all-around team gold.
We’re going in as the best team in the world," Raisman said in an NBC interview before the meet. "So we should carry ourselves that way, not be scared and shaky because we have that pressure. It should be the opposite. You know, you walk in like you’re number one and I think that’s intimidating to everyone else."

Phelps Snags Gold No. 20
Phelps "did his thing” as he shut down the distractions of South African swimmer Chad le Clos in the 200-meter butterfly at 9:30 p.m. Four years ago, le Clos beat Phelps in the 2012 Olympics in London.
The swimmers stepped off their blocks because of too much crowd noise, but the start went smoothly and Phelps led at the halfway point over le Clos and two Hungarians. Phelps edged the field including le Clos -- who finished fourth -- and then wagged his finger up to say No. 1 and beckoned the crowd to cheer even more, pumping his fist.
"You don't poke the tiger," said NBC announcer and former Olympic swimmer Rowdy Gaines.
Phelps won by .04 of a second, the smallest victory margin in Olympic history. Japanese and Hungarian swimmers placed second and third.
The 31-year-old Maryland swimmer is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 25 medals to his name -- 21 of them gold -- after helping Team USA swim past the French in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay on Sunday.
Bonus Phelps: Phelps swam a leg of the men's 200M freestyle relay roughly an hour after his 200M butterfly victory. The Americans had a huge lead as Ryan Lochte entered the pool for his leg of the relay, cushioning a maybe-tired Phelps wearing a bored swim cap when his ripped. But there was no sign of fatigue as he clinched gold medal No. 21 easily.

Katie Ledecky: Future of Women’s Swimming
Undefeated American swimmer Katie Ledecky, expected to haul home at least four gold medals, was also in the pool again Tuesday, winning her second gold in the 200M freestyle. Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom gave her a race, but the Maryland swimmer kept her undefeated streak in international individual races intact.
"I couldn't be happier right now," Ledecky said after the race.
Ledecky won her first individual medal — at a world record pace of 3:56:45 — in the 400 meter freestyle on Sunday.
On Saturday night, Ledekcy, 19, anchored the women's 4x100 freestyle relay that won a silver medal.
Ledecky competes in the 800 and 4x200 freestyle relay later this week.
