First Day of School in Anne Arundel County: Photos

Tears were shed Monday morning – some may even have come from children – as parents sent some youngsters back to school.

In Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the start date depends on what grade your child is in. On Monday, it was back to class for grades 1-5, plus grades 6 and 9. Most students head back to school Tuesday, with kindergarten students having a staggered start over the week.

By the end of August every child will be back in the classroom. Most return to school on Tuesday.

Here’s a look at key dates for August:

• Aug. 24: Schools open grades 1-5 and 6 and 9
• Aug. 25: Schools open for all grades
• Aug. 26-28: Staggered starts for kindergarten and full-day pre-kindergarten
• Aug. 27: School starts for ECI students
• Aug. 27, 28, 31: Staggered starts for half-day pre-kindergarten.
• Aug. 31: First day for all kindergarten and full-day pre-kindergarten
