Longtime Republican Fundraiser Richard Hug Dies
Hug served as finance chairman for several high-profile Republican fundraising campaings, including George W. Bush and Mitt Romney.

A longtime fundraiser for the Republican party, Richard E. Hug, died May 4 in Anne Arundel County.
Hug, 78, of Arnold, MD, was known as a prolific fundraiser for both charitable and political causes.
“Hug’s political fundraising efforts for the Republican Party were unparalleled in Maryland,” according to a statement from the Anne Arundel County chapter of the Republican State Central Committee.

Throughout his career, Hug served as the finance chairman for several gubernatorial campaigns, as well as being the official finance chairman for Maryland in former President George W. Bush’s 2000 and 2004 campaigns, and was a senior advisor for presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s fundraising campaign in Maryland in 2012, according to a news release.
The Republican State Central Committee’s annual award for the party’s top fundraiser is named in Hug’s honor.
