St. Margaret's Choirs present Advent Lessons & Carols
Annual Lessons & Carols program at St. Margaret's to be held Dec. 6

The choirs of St. Margaret’s Church of Annapolis (1601 Pleasant Plains Road on the Broadneck peninsula) will present their annual Advent Lessons & Carols service on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m.
This service provides an antidote to the increasing commercial and social pressures that come with the Christmas holiday season. Instead of singing Christmas carols prior to the Festival of Christmas, the congregation and choirs of St. Margaret’s sing carols and hymns that speak to the promise of Christ’s coming. These are interspersed between lessons from scripture read by a variety of people and choral anthems sung by the choir. Adding to the contemplative nature of the service is the Advent Procession. The service begins in darkness and the choir begins singing at the back of the church. With each lesson, a candle is lit, the church becomes bright and the choir moves forward towards the altar. Deeply meaningful and beautiful, Advent Lessons and Carols has become a beloved tradition at St. Margaret’s.
