Report: Catonsville Medical Offices Project Affirmed by County Appeals Board

The Baltimore County Board of Appeals has ruled in favor of plans for developing a medical offices project at Kenwood Avenue in Catonsville.

Some residents of Kenwood Gardens Condominiums opposed the project that would be across the street from them, and filed the appeal, according to an article Monday in The Baltimore Sun.

Last week, the board affirmed an "an earlier decision by a county administrative law judge," it states.

In the appeal, association members said approval of the plans by Baltimore County Council was illegal, citing Stephen Whalen's conviction for making illegal campaign contributions, including to then-Councilman Tom Quirk, the article states.

Quirk's title is now council chairman.

Whalen Properties plans to develop about two acres of land into a four-story medical building that sits on top of a three-story garage.

Catonsville Patch readers were polled, unscientifically, beginning in January 2012. When asked if they approve of the project, as of Monday, 914, or 43 percent, of the 2,116 readers who responded said 'yes.'

However, the majority, 56 percent, say they do not approve.
