The College Park Aviation Museum screens the documentary "Breaking Through The Clouds."

In 1929, 20 women endeavored to race from California to Ohio with only a compass and road map to guide them. The journey would have been arduous enough on the ground, but these women weren't traveling by car: They were pilots, and with hundreds of miles between their planes and the pavement - much less human contact - they were in for quite a ride.

The event was the first Women's National Air Derby, and the documentary "Breaking Through The Clouds" explores the importance of the race for not just women or aviators, but the nation as a whole.

On Saturday, The College Park Aviation Museum will show screenings of "Breaking Through The Clouds" at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Both screenings will feature an introduction and Q&A session from the documentary's writer and producer, Heather Taylor. Admission is $5 and includes popcorn and lemonade.
