UMD Student Robbed of Cell Phone on Campus

The student was not injured.

A female University of Maryland student was robbed of her cell phone Wednesday, University of Maryland Department of Public Safety said.

While she was walking through lot 1D, a young male approached her on a bicycle and asked to borrow her cell phone, police said.

The student did not hand over the phone and boy grabbed the phone and rode off on his bicycle toward Presidential Drive, police said.

The student tried to stop the boy by grabbing his shirt, but after a brief struggle, let him go.

The male dropped his bicycle at the intersection of Campus Drive and Presidential Drive then ran toward Adelphi Road and Tulane Drive.

The student was not injured. No weapons were used in the robbery.
