Week in Review: Hummingbirds, East Campus and Comfort Zone

This week, we wrote about that has made its home in College Park. The rufous hummingbird typically flies south to winter in Mexico, but one in particular decided she would rather spend her time on Drexel Road. That's fine with bird-watching enthusiasts, some of whom have travelled from such far flung places as New York City and Philadelphia just to get a glimpse of the bird.

The Baltimore-based Cordish Company to present to the public their nascent plans for developing East Campus. Though the company has only been on the job for 90 days, local officials are enthusiastic about the developer's early plans, which include small, pedestrian friendly blocks, engaging ground level storefronts, and sightlines from Route 1 that would give the complex an open feel.

The Comfort Zone -- a store on Baltimore Avenue that sells, among other things, adult products -- . For one thing, it's violating its use and occupancy permit, which explicitly states that the store is not permitted to sell adult products. On the other hand, some residents say that Comfort Zone is a local business that isn't harming anyone. What do you think?

for questioning of a March incident where officers were videotaped beating an unarmed University of Maryland student as first reported by the Washington Post. The video, which was aired nationwide on April 13, 2010, shows UMd. student John J. McKenna skipping on a sidewalk before he stops in front of a group of officers on horseback. As he stood there, officers ran and attacked him. The federal investigation has been ongoing since April.
