Week in Review: Sports, the Storm and the Launch of College Park Patch!
A look at notable events for the week of July 25 - Aug. 1.
A lot has happened in the last seven days, not the least of which was the launch of the College Park Patch! But before we get to that…
The city of College Park has applied for its own BikeShare program, which would mean rentable bicycles at a number of different locations throughout the city. These bikes could be used to ride on local trails, like the Northeast Paint Branch Trail discussed in this week's Trail Heads column. Be sure to take note of some advice from the experts before getting your journey underway.
Maybe the interest in biking is the culprit for decreased membership at local swim clubs? That, or kids are too busy taking advantage of the many awesome summer camp opportunities available in the area. OK, maybe not, but it made for a decent transition.

Last Sunday's storm wreaked havoc on a number of fronts. Many homes and businesses were left without power, and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) enacted restrictions on water usage for much of the week. Columnist Sharon O'Malley offered up some tips on how to conserve water in your home, WSSC- mandated or not.
On a significantly more somber note, Michelle Humanick, an active College Park community member from the Yarrow neighborhood, died when a tree fell on top of the minivan she was driving. Humanick's memorial service was held Friday.
