Columbia Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Award-Winning Singer Ledisi is Featured Attraction in Virtual Concert on June 19

Columbia (MD) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a virtual concert celebration on June 19, 7-9:30 p.m. The event is being sponsored in partnership with Delta Research & Educational Foundation, and proceeds benefit the Chapter’s scholarship and community service programs.
Singer Ledisi is the featured attraction of the anniversary concert. She is a 2021 Grammy Award Winner, Best Traditional R&B Performance. Ledisi has received three Soul Train Music awards, an NAACP Theater Award and six NAACP Image Award nominations. She is also an author of two books and is a playwright of “Legend of Little Girl Blue.”
Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, actress, television personality and author Chante Moore will host a Virtual Meet and Greet with Ledisi for sponsors on June 19, from 6-6:30 p.m., prior to the concert performance.

Wanda L. Nelson, President of the Columbia (MD) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, will be one of the speakers at the virtual event to highlight community service achievements and several historical tributes.
The Columbia (MD) Alumnae Chapter was founded June 17, 1971, by 22 charter members and now has over 300 members. The group has focused primarily on the needs of the Howard County community through Delta’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The activities of the Columbia (MD) Alumnae Chapter include providing scholarships to high school students pursuing a college degree, encouraging young students’ interest in STEM fields and supporting other programs that enhance academic success. In addition, the Columbia (MD) Alumnae partners with local groups, such as Grassroots and Success in Style, to assist women and men in crisis. The Columbia (MD) Alumnae chapter also executes social action initiatives, such as voter registration, locally.
The 50th Anniversary virtual celebration includes sponsorship opportunities starting at $2,000 for Gold Sponsors, $1,000 for Red Sponsors, $750 for Crimson & Cream level and $500 for the Patron level.
