HOLLYWOOD, CA — Brent Faiyaz, an R&B artist born and raised in Columbia, Maryland, has collaborated with the rapper Drake and producers The Neptunes, a duo that includes Pharrell Williams, on a new single that was released this week, and the tune appears to be getting some buzz.

The track "Wasting Time" arrived on Wednesday night, and writers who cover R&B music already are calling it a potential massive summer hit, and one that might make the 25-year-old Faiyaz a household name.

"Today (Faiyaz) continues to build his momentum with 'Wasting Time,' which features man of the hour Drake and sees production from The Neptunes, making for what could be the biggest drop this summer," wrote Jon Powell on Revolt.tv.

Alex Zidel, writing for HotNewHipHop.com, said the reaction to the song on social media has been positive, to say the least.

"And the fans are seriously feeling this collaboration, going so far as to claim that 'Wasting Time' could be the eventual song of the summer," Zidel wrote.

Born Christopher Brent Wood, Faiyaz was once part of the group Sonder. He made a major commercial breakthrough with a featured appearance on Goldlink's song "Crew," which was nominated for a 2018 Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance.

Faiyaz, now based in Los Angeles, has since issued two solo albums, "Sonder Son" (2017) and "F--- The World" (2020). Faiyaz's next album "Make It Out Alive" is due out soon, and "Wasting Time" is expected to be included on the album.

By then, Faiyaz could be a much bigger star than he is now.

"(Faiyaz) may not yet be a household name, but his latest single "Wasting Time" shows he has no intention of being relegated to the status of 'best-kept secret,'" wrote Jordan Darville on TheFader.com.
