HCLS Art Education Collection Gains 118 New Works
Works by Romare Beardan, Jacob Lawrence, & Diego Riveria Among New Artwork Now Available to Borrow at Central Branch

One hundred and eighteen new artworks, including 26 new artists, are now available to borrow from Howard County Library System’s popular Art Education Collection at the Central Branch in Columbia. Designed to foster a learning environment that both inspires and supports aspirant,
amateur and professional artists, the collection includes framed artwork (prints and photographs) available for borrowing. Each artwork is accompanied by information about the artist, the piece, and tools to inspire conversation.
Since its inception in March 2019, the Art Education Collection has grown in popularity and several artists are in demand by customers. The collection will continue to expand to include work by both distinguished and local artists. HCLS hopes the growing collection will inspire the community toward a greater appreciation of art and further encourage personal exploration of art
and art-related classes offered by the Library.
The framed artwork is packaged in protective, easy to transport bags. The collection is only available at HCLS Central Branch, and customers must be 18 years of age or older to borrow artwork. Customers may only borrow two items from the collection at any given time for a six-week period. The artwork cannot be reserved, renewed, or placed on hold. Customers can however call the Central Branch to check on the availability of artwork. If available, the artwork will be held for 2 hours at the Central Branch for customer pick-up. All artwork is housed at HCLS
Central Branch and must be picked up and returned to that branch.
