Howard County School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Howard County is September 5 for K-12 and September 7 for Pre-K and RECC Students. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Howard County School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

September

• 9/5: First Day of School for grades K-12
• 9/7: First Day of School for Pre-K and RECC Students
• 9/21: No School
• 9/22: Professional Learning Day - No School for Students

October

• 10/20: School-based Professional Work Day - No School for Students

November

• 11/10: Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC
• 11/20: Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC. ES/MS Parent/Teacher Conferences, HS
  Professional Learning
• 11/21: Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC. Parent/Teacher Conferences
• 11/23-24: Thanksgiving Holiday - No School

December

• 12/25-29: Winter Break - No School
• 12/25-26: No School

January

• 1/1: Schools and Offices Closed for New Year's Day
• 1/2: Schools Reopen
• 1/15: Martin Luther King Jr. Day - No School
• 1/24-25: High Schools (only) Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC.
• 1/26: Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC

February

• 2/16: Schools Closed for Students – Countywide Professional Day
• 2/19: Presidents’ Day - No School

March

• 3/30: Schools and Offices Closed

April

• 4/2: Schools and Offices Closed
• 4/2-6: Spring Break - No School
• 4/4-6: May be used as inclement weather days
• 4/13: Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC

May

• 5/18: Schools Closed for Students - Professional Work/Articulation Day
• 5/28: Memorial Day - No School

June

• 6/12-13: High Schools (only) Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC
• 6/14: Last Day of School for Students - All Schools Close 3 hrs. early. No half-day Pre-K/RECC
• 6/15: Professional Work Day. May be used as inclement weather makeup day
