Howard County Storm Update: Closures, Slick Roads
Trash and recycling collection is on a new schedule this week due to snow, and multiple closures have been announced in HoCo.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County received the most snow in Maryland during the weekend snowfall, according to preliminary information sent to the National Weather Service. Columbia saw 13 inches of accumulation, the weather service reported.
The Howard County Emergency Operations Center was activated to monitor the storm, from the forecast to public works issues. Police responded to 13 traffic accidents by the morning of Sunday, Jan. 13, authorities reported, with no injuries.
Now that the snow is over, drivers should slow down, leave extra stopping distance and anticipate slick spots on bridges and secondary roads.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Monday morning about the roads.: "Temperatures will remain below freezing through the morning commute. Therefore, any untreated surfaces will remain snow-covered and slippery during this time. Temperatures will rise above freezing late this morning into early this afternoon."
Closures, Cancellations
Howard County Public School System is closed on Monday, Jan. 14.

Howard County Government will be opening at 10 a.m. with liberal leave on Monday, Jan. 14.
Howard Community College is closed on Monday, Jan. 14. For the status of performing arts events, call the Horowitz Center Box Office hotline at 443-518-4030.
Trash and recycling collections Monday have been canceled. The slide schedule is in effect, so Monday collection slides to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, etc.
The Columbia Association announced the following schedule for Monday, Jan. 14:
- Sports and fitness facilities will open on time.
- Masters Swim Practice class at the Columbia Swim Center has been canceled.
- Call facilities ahead of time to check the status of classes and Kidspace.
