Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect for 3 Counties

Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George's counties may experience falling trees, strong winds and hail, weather officials advise.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George's counties until 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at approximately 5:45 p.m., when a severe thunderstorm was spotted in the area of Laurel or Beltsville.

The storm may bring quarter-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts, weather officials say. Trees and large branches may fall, possibly causing power outages and endangering those outside.

People should go inside to protect themselves from lightning and falling branches. If in an area with large trees, remain downstairs on the lowest floor. Drivers should not go under trees or in wooded areas until the warning period is over, according to officials.

There was a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Baltimore and Harford counties until 6 p.m. as well.
