Teen Charged In Columbia Mall Shooting: Police

COLUMBIA, MD — Howard County police have charged two suspects in the fatal shooting that happened in the parking lot at the Mall in Columbia in December 2020. Anthony Patterson, 20, of Owings Mills, was shot and killed at approximately 10:23 p.m. Dec. 4 in the parking lot in front of the Main Event entertainment venue.
The Howard County Police Department believes Patterson engaged in a brief argument with Charles Thomas Busey, 29, of Washington, D.C., outside of the venue. A short time later Angelo Deans, 17, of no fixed address, shot Patterson then Deans took off in a vehicle driven by Busey, according to a police report. There are no indications that the victim knew the two suspects before the incident.
Deans has been charged as an adult with first- and second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree assault, attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and related firearms charges.

Busey is believed to have driven Deans away from the scene and is charged with accessory after the fact for first- and second-degree murder, according to the police department. Both suspects were arrested within the last week in Washington, D.C., and are being held there.
