5 Million Meals Served To Anne Arundel Youth During Pandemic

Children ages 2 to 18 receive three free school meals per day not just while school is in session, but also during the summer.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Every day during the pandemic that school has been virtually in session for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, food and nutrition services team members have braved the weather and germs to make sure students didn't go hungry. The coronavirus pandemic led to the school district's closure March 13, 2020. Since that time, AACPS has served 5 million meals.

Children ages 2 to 18 receive three free school meals per day not just while school is in session, but also during the summer.

“These awesome members of our AACPS family are among the unsung heroes of the pandemic,” AACPS Superintendent George Arlotto said in a news release. “They have been outside of our schools in all kinds of weather conditions because they are committed to the service of children. We should all be proud of these incredible public servants.”

AACPS currently serves approximately 10,000 children more than 40,000 meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack) at more than 120 sites around the county each day schools are in session. There are no income restrictions and families can arrange to pick up meals without children present by calling 410-222-5900.
