AACPS Graduation Ceremonies To Be Held At Crofton High School

CROFTON, MD — Anne Arundel County Public Schools' class of 2021 will be participating in a series of official graduation ceremonies beginning June 7 at Crofton High School's newly constructed stadium. While the exact schedule of commencement exercises has yet to be finalized, multiple events will be held across several days. Ceremonies for the Phoenix Academy, Anne Arundel Evening High School, Chesapeake Science Point, Central Special School, Marley Glen School and Ruth Parker Eason School will be held at smaller, indoor venues.

Due to pandemic-related capacity restrictions in place at entertainment and athletic venues, graduating seniors will each be provided with two tickets to give to family members for the ceremonies. Should the restrictions ease before the week of June 7, AACPS Superintendent George Arlotto said he would consider providing additional tickets to students so more people can attend the ceremonies.

School officials are considering the possibility of livestreaming the events so that family members who do not have tickets can watch from home. Parking arrangements have not been finalized but may include using parking passes, Arlotto said.

“This has not been in any way the kind of school year any of us envisioned or wanted for our graduating seniors who have persevered through a year unlike any other,” Arlotto wrote in a letter sent to families of high school seniors. “As I have said for many months, our team has been committed to providing an in-person ceremony to salute our graduating seniors in the best way we can. We believe this plan offers us the opportunity to do that and I look forward to helping to salute our graduates in June.”

The school system also will reserve inclement weather dates in case ceremonies need to be moved.
