All AACPS Will Open On Time For Virtual Learning

Now that learning is virtual, Anne Arundel County Public Schools no longer needs the waiver for some schools to start later.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Six Anne Arundel County schools that originally received a waiver from the Maryland State Department of Education to open the 2020-2021 school year a day later than other schools now will open on time since learning is now virtual.

Crofton High School, Corkran Middle School, Edgewater Elementary School, George Cromwell Elementary School, Richard Henry Lee Elementary School and Tyler Heights Elementary School were scheduled to open Sept. 9 due to construction projects. The 2020-2021 school year begins virtually for all students Sept. 8.

Maryland schools have been closed since State Superintendent Karen Salmon shut them down in March due to the coronavirus. Each county's school board must submit a plan for fall classes by Aug. 14. State officials will review the proposals and then issue a definitive ruling on whether public schools are allowed to reopen.
