Crofton High School Principal Chosen For 2020 Opening

CROFTON, MD -- Anne Arundel County Public Schools will open the doors to its much needed $135 million Crofton High School in September 2020. Project managers say the school’s construction is progressing on schedule and a principal has been selected from within the Anne Arundel County Public School District to lead Crofton High School.

The new school is expected to serve almost 1,700 students. The public school system established a redistricting committee to map out who would be attending Crofton High School. They will be led by Kathryn Feuerherd who has served as principal at Southern High School for the last three years. She was appointed by Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent George Arlotto, according to a news release issued May 15.

Feuerherd launched her education career as a social studies teacher at Old Mill High School and served for three years as chair of the department at the school before being named assistant principal there. Feuerherd remained an assistant principal at Old Mill until being appointed principal at Southern High School prior to the 2016-2017 school year.

“I am beyond excited at the unique opportunities that come with opening a brand new high school,” Feuerherd said in the statement. “I will miss the incredible community at Southern very much because they have been an important part of my life and career and have played a large part in preparing me for this role. I am very much looking forward to the process of working collaboratively to create a new school community of which we can all be very, very proud.”

Feuerherd will finish the year at Southern High School and begin her new duties with Crofton High School on July 1, 2019. She will be tasked with hiring school staff, working with the community, officially naming the new school, selecting school colors and identifying a mascot.
