Crofton Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries In Head-on Crash

An 18-year-old Crofton man suffered life-threatening injuries in an early morning crash Sunday near Gambrills, hitting a vehicle head-on.

CROFTON, MD — Anne Arundel County officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash Sunday shortly after 5 a.m. along Davidsonville Road near Gerstanhal Road. According to a police report, a Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on Davidsonville Road approaching the intersection of Gerstanhal Road. A Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling north on Davidsonville Road approaching Gerstanhal Road. The driver of the Elantra crossed into the northbound lane and struck the Santa Fe head on. The driver of each vehicle was trapped and required extrication by the fire department.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Prince UMD Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly with the driver of the Elantra suffering life-threatening injuries. The primary cause of the crash appears to be the driver of the Elantra failing to remain in his designated lane, according to the police department. A release from the department noted that the crash "is likely alcohol related on the part of the Elantra driver."

The driver of the Elantra was Christopher Joseph Hogan, 18, of Crofton. The driver of the Santa Fe was Joseph Cyr Linonis, 29, of Annapolis.
