CROFTON, MD — A Crofton native and successful swimmer has set a University of Kentucky school record in the 400-yard individual medley. Lauren Poole shaved more than six seconds off her time in the event, a time that placed her third in the nation before the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. Poole also has shaved more than three seconds off her 200-yard breaststroke before the national competition, becoming the third fastest performer in her college's history.
Poole, who attended South River High School, used to swim with the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. She recently competed in the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in North Carolina, entering the competition as third in the 400 individual medley, 12th in the 200 individual medley and 15th in the 200 breaststroke. She ended up earning a bronze medal in the 400 individual medley and reset her own school record to be named an All-America First Team on Friday night at the 2021 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. According to the university, her third-place finish is Kentucky's highest individual finish, male or female, swimming or diving, since 2017-2018.
