John “Paul” Sexton, 88, a resident of Annapolis, MD, passed away on May 25, 2015 of natural causes.
Born on September 7, 1926 in Washington, DC to the late Francis and Mary Pauline Sexton, Paul graduated from Anacostia High School in Washington and attended the University of Maryland. During World War II, he was a Watertender Third Class in the U.S. Navy and served aboard a minesweeper in the Pacific.

Paul, a stationary engineer, retired as a Chief Engineer after a 40 year membership in the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 99. A lifelong Redskins fan, Paul also enjoyed military history, traveling, and spending time with his family.
When his sons were young, he was a CYO football coach for Mt. Calvary Elementary School in Forestville and became affectionately known as “Coach” thereafter. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton.

On June 26, 2014, Paul and his wife, Dody, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Sexton Port.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dody; his daughter, Kathy Sexton (Bill Lauffer) of Chester, MD, three sons, John (Christine) Sexton of Wendell, NC, Mark (Robin) Sexton of Crofton, MD, Richard Sexton of Clarksville, VA; one brother, Gregory (Candy) Sexton of Chester, MD; one sister, Joan Sexton Bronson of Gaithersburg, MD; and nine grandchildren, Jason Honeycutt and Nick, Justin, Caitlin, Sean, Joshua, Daniel, Steven and Scott Sexton.
Friends are invited to celebrate Paul’s life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM on Sunday, May 31, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 1, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive, Crofton. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
