CROFTON, MD —Anne and Scott Davidson of Crofton were weary of the hustle and bustle of daily life. They lived in Crofton and Scott worked in a fast-paced, demanding IT job. They sought an escape and found it in a surprising way.

Three hours from Crofton was an eight-acre patch near Accident, Md. It was peaceful and serene; just what they needed. In 2004, the couple purchased the land and decided to not just own it, but to do something productive yet relaxing with it that didn't demand too much of their time and energy.

After investigating their options, they decided to plant lavender. This sweet smelling herb is low maintenance and offered them exactly what they were seeking in life. They named their property Deep Creek Lavender Farm and began growing the herb to sell. Scott retired recently and now helps Anne full-time on the lavender farm. They started out growing 600 lavender plants and now are up to 1,500 plants with 16 different cultivars in a variety of colors.

“We don’t want lavender and our farm to just be a hobby, but a sustainable business,” Anne told Lancaster Farming. “We are constantly thinking of new ideas.”

The couple grows a wide variety of flowers and has baked goods, jams and more for sale at their farm.
