Maryland Weather: Chance of Flurries on Windy, Cool Friday

The weekend will start out windy and cold on Friday, with a chance for flurries, according to the National Weather Service. And expect a cold New Year's Eve with a slight chance for showers as the ball drops.

Thursday afternoon is dark and dreary, and Thursday night will be partly cloudy with temperatures below freezing and the wind chill or "feels like" temperature reaching near 20 degrees by Friday morning.

Warming centers are opening in some parts of the region.

There's a chance of flurries Friday, but it will otherwise be partly sunny, with a high near 40 degrees. The winds will increase through the day and could gust as high as 40 mph.

The skies will clear Friday night, with the temperature dropping to the mid-20s. Saturday will be mostly sunny and warming to the low 40s.

On New Year's Eve, the temperature should stay above freezing, but there's a slight chance of showers before 1 a.m.

New Year's Day includes a chance of showers, with a high near 47 degrees. Temperatures may reach the upper 50s by Tuesday, before another cold spell late next week.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 25. West wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. South wind 5 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

New Year's Day: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
