Police Officer Charged With DWI After Crofton Crash

A veteran Anne Arundel County Police officer was arrested for DWI after a Crofton crash, and reportedly fought with police at the scene.

CROFTON, MD — A 21-year veteran Anne Arundel County Police officer was arrested for driving while drunk after a Crofton crash, and reportedly fought with police at the scene. Sgt. Kenneth Collier, 43, of Odenton, was arrested Jan. 12 and released on his own recognizance, according to online court records. Collier is suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case, the department said.

The two-vehicle accident happened on Riedel Road at Johns Hopkins Road in Crofton when Collier's Ford Taurus reportedly rear-ended another vehicle. Collier is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol and was off-duty at the time of the crash.

Investigators believed Collier was under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly resisted arrest and assaulted officers on the scene. Collier was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, second-degree assault, driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest.
