Victim Found Dead In Crofton House Fire Was 90-Year-Old Woman: FD

Officials have identified the woman found dead in a Crofton house fire on May 9.

CROFTON, MD — Authorities have identified a 90-year-old woman found dead inside a burning Crofton home.

Anne Arundel Fire Department crews found the body of Rosa M. Dwarshuis on May 9 at 1831 Ralston Place. Fire officials say Dwarshuis was the only person inside the residence at the time.

The fire was first reported at about 4 p.m. by a resident who returned home to find smoke throughout the house. Firefighters didn't see flames, according to officials, but said that the house's windows were stained with smoke.

The Anne Arundel Fire Department says crews found Dwarshuis' body in the sunroom.

"In the sunroom, they located a fire which had extinguished itself prior to their arrival and a deceased adult female," the fire department said in a statement.

The Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit is working to determine the cause of the fire. They say there were no working smoke detectors in the house.
