Woodworkers Make 750 Toys for Local Children
These handmade toys were distributed to kids through local charities.
Wooden wheels on a block of wood may not be at the top of every child’s Christmas list, but that doesn’t mean wooden toys don’t have a place in children’s homes or hearts.
The Annapolis Woodworkers’ Guild has proved that to be true for decades. In fact, a small group of craftsman from the non-profit organization was responsible for making 750 toys to pass out to children around the county this year.
For 20 years, the group has handed out toys to children at Sarah’s House in Fort Meade, according to to WJLA. Three years ago, the group began giving toys to Cisco Center, Severna Park Assistance Network and schools’ backpack buddy programs as well.

“It’s a very tactile gift,” Bruce Clopein, a volunteer resource manager at Sarah’s House, told WJLA. “It’s definitely far different from your typical toys these days, but we’ve found [children] still enjoy them.”
Some of the toys the group has made include cars, trucks, airplanes, a fairy magic wand and refurbished dolls. The team gets January off, but beginning in February, the group will start on toys for next year’s holiday season.
