Adorable Adoptable Pets Of The Week For Baltimore County
These pets are searching for their forever homes. They currently are at Baltimore County Animal Services.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Meet Patch's Adorable Adoptable Pet of the Week available from Baltimore County Animal Services. Not only does the Baltimore County Animal Services receive a wide variety of dogs and cats, but the occasional unconventional pet also finds its way to the shelter. This week, the shelter wants to introduce readers to some very special pets who are searching high and low for their forever homes. The shelter currently has 23 mice ranging in ages from 1 to 10 months old who are hoping that they will find their way into the hearts of their forever family.
Though small, mice have very specific needs that should be met when caring for them, so it is important to make sure that you are prepared for all that is involved in creating a comfortable, loving home for them. Mice require a well-ventilated enclosure that is set to the ideal temperature and humidity. Dust-free bedding should be provided so that the mouse can bury below it to create tunnels and a nest. Mice are surprisingly tidy creatures and their nests will often include separate areas for them to eat, sleep and use the bathroom. It is important that not only is their enclosure kept clean, but they should always have access to fresh, clean food and water.
Hydration is important to mice and water-rich foods like lettuce, cucumbers and melons are ideal for increasing water intake, but plenty of water should still always be on hand. Some tasty treats that mice enjoy are basil, buckwheat, bananas, dandelions, strawberries and meal worms. Always be sure to thoroughly wash all fruits and veggies before giving them to your mice.

While you may not be able to take your pet mouse out for a long hike when the weather warms up, they are still quite sporty little things. Mice enjoy jumping, climbing and even swimming. Mice are generally more active during the twilight and evening hours, so be sure to set their enclosure up in a place that won’t disrupt your sleep.
There is no adoption fee associated with adopting any of the shelter's exotic pets, but all animals adopted through Baltimore County Animal Services receive a full veterinary exam prior to being sent home. If you would like to browse the full listing of the shelter's available mice and schedule an adoption appointment, visit https://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/departments/animalservices/adoption.html#/.
