BCPS To Host Virtual Summer Music Camps July 6-9
One camp will focus on learning to play the ukulele while the songwriting camp will help aspiring songsters craft music.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools Office of Music and Dance Education will offer two new virtual summer music camps July 6-9. The ukulele camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and the songwriting camp from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
One camp will focus on the ukulele and provide students with opportunities to create, respond, perform and connect to music with an emphasis on using a soprano ukulele. Students will develop musicianship skills that include fingerpicking melodies, playing chords to accompany songs, interpreting song lyrics and musical form, and connecting to the history and cultural uses of the ukulele.
The songwriting camp is geared toward students looking to learn more about how to use lyric creation, songwriting, music production and musicianship skills to produce musical works in their own style. Students will work to create an original musical composition that will be showcased at the end of the week.
Both camps are open to BCPS students in 5th through 12th grades who have been enrolled in a music class during the 2020-2021 school year. The camps will be led by BCPS music educators and held virtually through Google Meet. Register here.
