5-Year-Old Girl Killed in Sledding Crash: Sheriff

A child was sledding out of a driveway in Sykesville on Monday when she was fatally hit, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office reports.

SYKESVILLE, MD – A 5-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a car while sledding, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

The child was sledding down a driveway onto Heritage Lane at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, when she was hit by a Kia Sorento, the sheriff’s office reported.

The girl was taken to the Carroll Hospital Center, where authorities said she was pronounced deceased at 11:09 a.m.

The 49-year-old woman driving the Sorento was not impaired and had not been speeding, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said they would not disclose the identities of those involved.

The Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office will determine whether charges will be filed after the investigation is complete.
