Albert A. "Al" Burk, Sr., 79

Albert A. “Al” Burk Sr., 79, of Sykesville, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.

Born June 27, 1935, in Baltimore, Albert Burk Sr. was the son of the late Vernon Burk and Marie Carle Burk. “Al” is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Lynn Burk; his brother and sister Edwin Burk and Shirley Athas; his sons and daughters-in-law Albert Jr. and Jill Burk, David Burk, Kevin and Stephanie Burk and Steven and Tammy Burk; and his grandchildren Robin, Tom, Ashton, Camryn, Conner, Cassandra and Nathan Burk.

Al had been a waterfowl carver for many years and had served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

He was predeceased by siblings Doris Eichhorn, Vernon “Bud” Burk, Tish Price, Nancy Burk and John Burk.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 6416 Sykesville Road in Sykesville.

A service will be held at the same site on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Upperco, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Copper Ridge Employee Benefit Fund, a facility caring for individuals with Alzheimers and memory impairment that is located at 710 Obrecht Road in Sykesville.
