Carroll Sheriff: DUI Checkpoint Planned for Memorial Day Weekend 2016

Law enforcement will be on the lookout for drunk/impaired drivers this weekend in Carroll County.

CARROLL COUNTY, MD – The Carroll County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint this Memorial Day weekend to help keep impaired drivers off the roads.

The checkpoint will be marked with lights, uniformed officers and signs, according to the sheriff's office, which did not disclose the location.

Authorities said the weekend checkpoint is planned for Saturday, May 28.

In addition to the sheriff's office, the Hampstead, Manchester, Taneytown and Westminster police departments as well as Maryland State Police will be staffing the operation.

The initiative is part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign, funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation.

As a participant in the regional Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign, Maryland has committed to holding a checkpoint at least once a month from January to June and weekly from July through December with the goal of taking drunk and drugged drivers off the road.

In Maryland, the legal limit for blood alcohol consumption and driving is .08 percent.

People who see impaired drivers on the road are asked to call 911.
