One of the most popular characters in comics, Batman is getting his own special event when the Comics to Astonish store in Mt. Airy commemorates the occasion of Batman Day on Saturday.

Known as everything from the Caped Crusader to the Dark Knight, Batman has undergone many changes since he was created in 1939 by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger

“Batman is definitely very popular with customers who come to our store,” said owner Keegan Conrad. “Titles regarding the Dark Knight and the rest of the Bat-family always sell well for us.”

The past few years have not been easy times for the Dark Detective. First, Batman discovered a young son he didn’t know he had, and Damian Wayne quickly became the latest Robin to fight at his side.

Then Batman had to intervene in a war between the Joker and the Riddler that threatened to destroy much of Gotham City.

In the midst of all those troubles, Bruce Wayne still found time to propose to Selina Kyle, who is also the “purr-fect” villain known as Catwoman.

When he has a few extra seconds, Batman is a prominent member of the Justice League, and he was put to the test recently when the strange Nth Metal threatened to destroy not just our universe, but also worlds in a dark dimension.

Of course, some events have had positive results for the Dark Knight. He assembled and led a new team of detectives consisting of Red Robin,Batwoman, Orphan (Cassandra Cain, who used to be Batgirl), and even the villainous Clayface.

Another positive development took place when Barbara Gordon (who has been the computer-oriented Oracle since the Joker shot her and left her paralyzed from the waist down) regained the use of her legs and again took up the mantle of Batgirl.

However, Batman Day is just the first event celebrating the Dark Detective in 2018, since Detective Comics will soon reach its 1,000th issue, and the 80th anniversary of the Caped Crusader will come soon after.

As usual, more information on the event can be obtained by going to this website: https://www.dccomics.com/blog/2018/08/06/celebrate-batman-day-on-septemb....

Another special feature of this event is the fact that this it will also be celebrated at the other Comics to Astonish store, which is located at 9400 Snowden River Parkway #112 in eastern Columbia.
